Why are Trump Allies Turning Against Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei?

Anthropic’s biggest problem may now be bigger than regulation. 

The company is preparing for one of the most closely watched tech listings in years while its CEO becomes an increasingly visible political target in Washington.

According to Axios, the memo paints Amodei and people around him as part of a small group pushing an extreme view of AI risk. One administration source said Amodei’s approach clashes directly with Trump’s AI agenda. 

The Timing is Awkward for Anthropic

On September 23, Amodei told a UN Security Council briefing that advanced AI could pose “a risk to humanity as a whole”. He also said Anthropic would be willing to slow development.

White House science adviser Michael Kratsios reportedly used the same session to attack international AI governance as a “globalist scheme.”

That clash now follows Anthropic toward the public markets. Trump had already criticized Amodei on Truth Social after the CEO called for slower frontier AI development.

For investors, the question is becoming harder to ignore: how much political risk comes with Anthropic’s safety-first identity?

A Question About Anthropic’s Internal Ideology

Anthropic has repeatedly rejected the idea that effective altruism defines the company. The company’s president, Daniela Amodei, said that she does not identify with the label, while Dario Amodei has denied formal ties to the movement.

The company has since reportedly shifted its IPO from October to November, with a valuation near $2 trillion under discussion. Some investors already see the political fight as another IPO risk.
