Polkadot Reportedly Hit by Exploit as Attacker Mints 1 Billion DOT Tokens

Polkadot (DOT) has reportedly fallen victim to an exploit after an attacker minted 1 billion DOT tokens.

According to onchain tracker Lookonchain, the attacker then dumped the entire supply in a single transaction, netting 108.2 ETH (approximately $237,000), according to onchain analyst Lookonchain.

Wu Blockchain, citing CertiK, noted that the attack was a vulnerability in the Hyperbridge gateway that allowed the attacker to forge messages and manipulate the administrator of a Polkadot token contract on Ethereum.

The attacker used this access to mint unauthorized tokens and then swap them for ETH in a single move. The incident raises fresh concerns about crypto security.

This is a developing story, and further details will be updated as more information becomes available.
